A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after reports they were hit by a car this morning.
Police were called to the incident at 7.24am and the A20 eastbound towards the Port of Dover was shut to traffic due to the collision in Capel Le Ferne.
The road has now reopened after recovery work was completed.
The incident caused delays from the B2011 Court Wood Interchange to the Western Heights roundabout at Old Folkestone Road in Aycliffe, Dover.
A police spokeswoman said: “Officers attended the scene along with South East Coast Ambulance Service where a car is reported to have collided with a pedestrian.
“The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and he has been taken to a London hospital for treatment.
“The coastbound carriageway remains closed near to the Aycliffe roundabout.”
Routes around the town have been extra busy during the day with queues from the A20 tailing back into the town centre along Folkestone Road.
A spokesman for National Highways said: “A serious incident occurred at approximately 7.43am resulting in the closure of the A20 eastbound.
“Kent Police are currently leading a multi-agency response to the incident. National Highways resources are assisting with traffic management.”
They also said the carriageway is expected to remain closed for several hours.
The Londonbound carriageway was closed earlier while the air ambulance landed but has since reopened.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “The pedestrian was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken by road to hospital in London in a serious condition.
“The air ambulance team travelled in the ambulance to treat the patient en route to hospital.”
