A dead horse, allegedly found with its throat slit, has caused outrage on social medial site Facebook.

This picture, posted by Archie Foad, shows the animal, which he claims was discovered in the Connaught area of Dover.

Police and the RSPCA attended the incident last Thursday near to Connaught Park but officers from the RSPCA said they believe an animal welfare offence was not committed.

Facebook users in Dover have expressed their outrage that this might have been a malicious act.

Jessica George Wilson described the act as "horrific" while Kevin Len Sarki said: "Hope police will find out the people who did it and put them in jail for years."

The RSPCA claims the horse may have been attacked by another animal after it died of natural causes.

A press spokesman said: "The RSPCA alongside the police went to see this horse and could find no evidence of an animal welfare offence. We understand members of the public may be concerned about this animal but he looked like he had died of natural causes, and signs of injury are likely to have been caused by predation after death. "We would urge anyone with any information about how he died to contact us on 0300 123 8018."Responsibility for the disposal of dead bodies belongs to the landowner and we would now urge the owner of the horse to dispose of the body as soon as possible, as we would with any responsible animal owner when their animal passes away."Police also confirmed they attended the scene after receiving reports of a dead horse in a private field near Castle Hill in Dover.

Martin Very, press officer, said: "There were no issues for investigation by the police."
