A teenager who was caught on camera throwing a large bin at opposition protesters in Dover has been imprisoned for 16 months.

Kamil Szulc, 19, of St Ann’s Road in Haringey, north London, was involved in the violent clashes between right wing and anti-fascist groups in the town on Saturday, January 30.

Szulc was captured on film throwing numerous objects including a large white bin, and will now serve 16 months in a young offender institute.

Investigating officer PC James Hatton-Browne said: “Kamil Szulc is the latest in a long line of people sentenced in connection with the appalling scenes witnessed in Dover earlier this year, and clearly has little regard for the justice system as his breach of bail demonstrates.”

Detectives continue to review footage of the violence and so far more than 70 people have been arrested.

Szulc handed himself in to British Transport Police officers at King’s Cross railway station on Monday, July 4, as he was aware he was wanted for an unrelated offence.

Kent Police was notified following his arrest and he was charged with violent disorder before being released on bail.

He was re-arrested at his home address on Wednesday, July 27, after breaching his bail conditions and sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court two days later having pleaded guilty to both offences.

PC Hatton-Browne said: “He is unfortunately known for this type of behaviour so I hope he uses the time he now has in custody to reflect on his actions and consider making some changes to his life.

“I hope this result sends a clear message to others that offences of this nature have no place in Dover or anywhere else.”
