Two men in their twenties have been charged with burglary after raiding the Co-op in River on Monday.
Nathan Clifton, 23, of De Burgh Street and Michael Bedford, 24, of South Road appeared via the virtual court system on Wednesday.
Police were called to the store, in Lower Road, at 11.20pm and arrested the men, recovering a large quantity of alcohol and tobacco believed to be stolen from the shop.
The sound of an alarm alerted residents to the break-in.
Both men were bailed and will appear at Canterbury Crown Court on October 20.
