Long delays expected at Port of Dover after adverse weather warning

08:10, 29 July 2017

Delays of up to three and a half hours have been experienced at the Port of Dover today.

P&O Ferries say that all Dover to Calais sailings are delayed by 210 minutes due to adverse weather and technical difficulties.

According to the company's Twitter, queues are currently taking approximately three hours to clear, but delays are now down to two hours.

The traffic across the town is delayed on the approach to Dover, with many motorists reporting stand still traffic on the motorways.

Travellers arriving at the Port should check in as usual and they will be put on the next available sailing at no extra cost.

The cross channel operator is tweeting travel updates.

Complimentary tea and coffee and a food voucher will be offered once passengers are on board.

Meanwhile DFDS Seaways has tweeted traffic is free-flowing at both the ports of Calais and Dunkirk.

A police spokesman said: "The Port of Dover is experiencing high volumes of freight traffic and police are assisting the management of this."

A P&O Ferries spokesman said: "We would like to apologise sincerely to every customer who has been inconvenienced by today's delays at the port.

"It has been caused by one of our ships going out of service because of a technical fault.

"I would like to assure everyone that we are doing everything we possibly can to improve the situation and help everyone complete their journey as soon as possible."
