White powder on train proves harmless

A TRAIN was evacuated on Sunday after white powder was discovered in one of the carriages. The conductor on the 10.30am Dover to Ramsgate service found the powder scattered in one of the first class carriages, as the train approached its destination.
He locked the coach, and contacted British Transport Police who met the train at Ramsgate. Passengers and crew were kept away from the carriage, while a thorough search was made. The powder was later found to be harmless and normal service was resumed.
A Connex spokesman said: "In the light of the current situation, this guard acted with extreme caution and his actions were commendable."
