Margate 0 Dover Ath 1
JIMMY AGGREY announced himself to Dover fans in the best possible fashion by scoring the goal which gave Whites a surprise, but fully deserved victory, at Hartsdown Park on Boxing Day. The former Torquay defender, Neville Southall’s first signing as manager, used his 6ft 3in frame to head in Steve Norman’s second-half corner from close range.
Former Dover boss Chris Kinnear could have no complaints after seeing his side, now without a win in 10 league games, outfought on the day. For a team so high in the table, Margate looked low on confidence and the home fans among the 3,676 crowd, the biggest for a game between the two clubs for 40 years, voiced their frustration repeatedly during the second half.
They did not have much else to shout about in a match which contained little in terms of goalmouth incident.
