Dover Rowing Club were narrowly beaten in their virtual cross-Atlantic challenge.
The club have been taking on regular challenges during lockdown with members using their rowing machines to compete against others.
They picked up the gauntlet thrown down by Folkestone RC to compete a row of the Atlantic and were joined by Worthing RC in a 4,700km race to the English Harbour in Antigua.
Folkestone finished just 19 minutes ahead of Dover.
Members could use a rowing machine, run, walk, workout or cycle to cover the distance.
David Newman, spokesperson for the Dover Rowing Club, said: “The challenge brought together the racing members with the dry side members together in a competition for the first time.
“So with ergos (rowing machines) in hallways, sheds and spare rooms, carefully thought out routes for runs, walks and cycle rides, Dover were ready for the off.”
Dover’s Adrian Callard outshone everyone with his own individual efforts over the course of the event, which ran for several days. He covered 82 miles on the rowing machine, along with many more miles of walking, cycling and also working out.
Chris Hall and David Newman added valuable distance on the rowing machines for the men, while Heather Corby, Jo Johnston and Maria West-Burrows also covered plenty of ground.
On the bike, Alfie Gardner, Bo Corby and Izzy Godden all put in plenty of effort, in what was a close-fought race.
