Jake Dixon’s run of points-scoring finishes in Moto2 ended at Misano at the weekend.

The Dover racer has scored points at the last eight meetings - including a recovery ride to fifth place from 14th at the same Misano track two weeks ago - but couldn’t extend that purple patch after crashing out of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The Aspar Team rider qualified fifth this time - two tenths off pole position man Aron Canet - and well within sight of another podium, as long as he made a good start. However a poor getaway cost him two places off the line and six laps into the 22-lap race he lost the bike for his first non-score since France in May.

Celestino Vetti won the race with Dixon’s failure to score leaving him seventh in the standings, 58 points off the lead with six rounds left, starting in Indonesia this weekend.

“It has been unfortunate,” Dixon said. “Honestly, I have not done too much wrong, it just was not our day.

“I have crashed doing the same as what I have done before. I just lost the front.

“Misano has always been a little bit tough but I am happy because we have made good progress over the weekend and over the two weeks that we have raced here. In that sense, I am satisfied, but obviously I am not happy with the result.”

Dixon’s teammate, Izan Guevara, did bring some points home for the team, finishing 13th.
