Jake Dixon was beaten by his team-mate in a disappointing Moto2 Grand Prix of Thailand at the weekend.

Dover’s Aspar Team racer outpaced Izan Guevara, starting 11th with the Spaniard in 18th, but was not happy with his qualifying display after failing to make it over the line in time to start a last run.

In the race he ran as high as third before slipping down the field to finish seventh, with Guevara sixth to equal his best-ever Moto2 result on a day when Japan’s Ai Ogura was crowned world champion.

“I have made a mistake in my first lap,” Dixon said after qualifying.

“In the last run I have waited [too] much and I have not been able to complete a last flying lap. In the end, I have only been able to finish 11th. It has been a shame, I should have prepared better.”

Dixon’s seventh-place finish sees him eighth in the championship with two rounds left, starting in Malaysia this weekend, as he looks to bow out of the Aspar Team on a high before he switches to Marc VDS Racing in 2025.

“It has been a disaster,” he added after the race.

“I have done a great start and a great first lap and I got to the third position. However, today I have not felt comfortable with the bike.

“Normally, when I get to the front, I stay there, but today I have not been able to. I had zero grip.”
