Experienced striker signs for Whites

00:00, 17 January 2002

PHIL STANT, who scored nearly 200 goals during his long Football League career, will make his debut for Dover Athletic in Saturday’s home game with Doncaster Rovers.

The much-travelled 39-year-old striker, who played for 14 League clubs, has signed for Whites on a match-to-match basis from Worcester City.

Dover boss Neville Southall believes that Stant’s vast experience will take some of the weight off the shoulders of leading scorer Keith Scott. Stant said: “I have signed on a match-to-match basis and am hoping to help out as much I can. It’s the first time I have worked with Neville (Southall) and I am looking forward to it.

Southall, who is moving to a house in Deal this week from his North Wales home, is confident that at least two more new faces will be on show when Whites take on Charlton Athletic in another hastily-arranged friendly at Crabble next Tuesday (7.30). The Addicks’ boss Alan Curbishley has promised to send down a strong team after Southall told him of Whites’ current financial problems.
