Giancarlo Gallifuoco was proud of all his Dover teammates after they held on to beat Boreham Wood 3-2 in the National League.

The Whites went 3-1 up with five minutes to go but a late goal from their opponents set up a nervy end to the match.

The defender said the whole squad had given their all to come away with all three points.

Gallifuoco said: “It’s a massive performance and I’m so proud of everyone. We dug in and towards the end they threw everything they had at us. We all gave 100% and everyone in the changing room in knackered.

“It’s one of those performances when you go into the changing room dead but you are so happy that everyone banded together and got the three points.”

Dover had been on a poor run of form in the league and had not won in five matches.

Gallifuoco said the win meant a lot to his side and hopes they can build on it.

He said: “We want so much from ourselves and a draw feels like a loss at times. We have been down a bit about it that we haven’t been able to take those one points to three points.

“As you can see it meant a lot to us to get back to winning ways. Hopefully it is onwards and upwards from here.

“This whole time we’ve been in there and we’ve been having a lot of one points that should have been three. But this was definitely a big confidence boost. Everyone is up and in good spirits.”

Two fellow defenders, Manny Parry and Femi Ilesanmi, and winger Kadell Daniel scored in Dover’s hard fought win to put them up to sixth in the league.

Gallifuoco said it was tough to hold on to the win at the end against a side who are also chasing promotion this season.

He added: “I’m so happy for Manny, especially on his birthday, but now he’s running away from me. He’s got five goals and I’ve got three so I’ve got to catch up.

“Femi’s been fantastic as well. I was so happy for him and it was a fantastic finish from him.

“It was definitely difficult towards the end. I knew we would hold out.

“It becomes difficult to defend as they have nothing to lose and they have no structure. Those are the moments the brain takes over rather than the body.”
