Jack Nixon battled his way to a podium finish at Donington Park on Sunday.

The Folkestone rider started 11th on the grid during the National Superstock 600 Championship race but ended up fighting for the win.

Nixon finished less than a second behind race winner Rhys Irwin, leaving him fifth in the rider standings with two races to go.

In Friday’s two practice sessions, one was in the wet and the other in the dry. Poor weather meant Saturday’s track time was limited to just a 10 minute warm-up.

There was surface water on the track for Sunday’s race, which saw Nixon climb his way into the podium positions and clinch 20 championship points.

Nixon said: “It was a very strange weekend at Donington to say the least. From a cold and wet Friday for practice, to Saturday’s qualifying session being cancelled completely.

“This meant I was 11th on the grid from the combined practice times, which wasn’t great.

“In the race it was half wet and half dry and we went for a gamble and put a dry front in, it took a while for the combination to work but by the end of the race I had worked my way up to a podium place.

“I made my way into second and could see first in front of me but just ran out of time! I’m so pleased to get my first podium in this class and improve from my bad luck the last few races."
