Dover Athletic boss Chris Kinnear admits he feels a little ‘embarrassed’ after winning the Vanarama National League Manager of the Month accolade for October on Thursday.

Kinnear's side recorded six wins in seven games during the month, which included five in the league, a run that has taken Whites up to third and just two points behind leaders Forest Green Rovers.

They also won the FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Eastbourne Borough.

But the modest Kinnear, who won the same award last November, doesn't think he was the only one who deserved to get the accolades after a stunning month of football.

He said: "It should be a team of the month award, it really should.

"My backroom staff do an unbelievable job in preparing the lads and that includes all of them from the physio to kit man, fitness coach to Jake (assistant manager Jake Leberl).

"I couldn't do it without each and every one of them.

"But it's not me or the staff that win games - it's the players who run themselves into the ground each game.

"They are the ones who win games, not the managers.

"Managers are kidding themselves if they think they deserve an award like this - it's a bit embarrassing, to be honest.

"The only time I'd like to win an award as a manager is at the end of the season because if you do, well, your team should have won the league.

"That's when an award is really important, not now."
