It didn’t come as much of a surprise to Dover match-winner Zidan Sutherland that it was Paris Lock setting up both of his weekend goals.
Substitute Sutherland made the difference as Whites came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Isthmian Premier Haringey in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round.
Both strikes were set up by AFC Wimbledon’s Lock, who was with Chatham last term, who has signed on loan at Crabble initially until January.
“The day Paris came into training, we could see what a player he is,” said Sutherland.
“The link-up play that we have has pretty much been there since.
“When we’re in training, he always looks for me and we link-up well.”
Only five minutes after being introduced, Sutherland curled home a deflected pass by Lock against Haringey before he volleyed in a fantastic right-wing cross from the 18-year-old.
Sutherland reflected: “It was a good day at the office.
“I was happy to get back on the scoresheet. That was a nice confidence boost.”
When asked which effort he had preferred, the four-goal striker replied: “I’d say the second.
“It was a bit of a shock to get the winner. But the first one was a very tidy finish as well.
“I’m a bit frustrated I didn’t get the second one earlier when I rounded the keeper and could have slotted that one in - but I was falling over!”
Sutherland enjoyed a bright start to life with Whites, as he netted in their first two league matches.
He hadn’t found the target since before the weekend, though, and missed a penalty in a 1-0 derby loss at Tonbridge in August. As a team, they already appear to be in another battle against relegation from National League South.
But on their league campaign to date, Sutherland assessed: “I personally think that it is a case of taking the chances we create.
“No team has beaten us by more than two goals so we’re not getting battered.
“It’s just a case of us taking our chances.”
