DOVER ATHLETIC received a huge boost this week when experienced Football league player Andy Arnott agreed to sign a three-year deal.

The 28-year-old, who can play in midfield or defence, agreed after meeting assistant manager Paul Hyde.

He has played for Leyton Orient, Fulham and Brighton, but has recently recovered from injury. “I know him and he is back to full fitness,” said Hyde, who is deputising for holidaying manager Clive Walker. "He is a very experienced player and his move here is tremendous for the club.”

Hyde has also captured experienced striker Nicky Dent, who has plied his trade around the county, including a spell at the Crabble.

“He was with Premier Division side Folkestone last season and I am sure will do well for us," commented Hyde. “He is a big lad and we have not got a lot of height up front. I have also met him a couple of times and he seems like a great character. He can’t wait to start.”

Midfielders Jamie Day and Darren Davies have both committed themselves to Dover for two years, but former Whites defender Stuart Munday and Kevin Seabury are still in talks.

Meanwhile, there is less certainty about the futures of striker Keith Scott and Jake Leberl.

Hyde’s gut feeling is that Scott will depart, mainly because of the wages Dover are now unable to pay.
