Dover’s unbeaten National League South run extended to six matches as they were held by Bath City on Saturday.

Whites probably looked the more likely to score, certainly in the second half, but nobody could find a way through at Crabble during the goalless draw.

It was, however, a fourth clean sheet in a row for Whites.

They had the first chance inside the opening two minutes in front of a crowd of 710.

Josh Ajayi drove forward well and found the influential Luke Wanadio on the left, who cut inside and fired over.

The 12th minute saw Bath win a free-kick, which was cleared. Some clever footwork by Wanadio helped the home side get away but the visitors recovered well.

Opportunities then appeared to dry up somewhat but, on the half-hour mark, the Romans made a couple of openings out of virtually nothing. An away corner found Jordan Dyer unmarked at the far post but he headed wide before, seconds later, Cody Cooke missed the target, having found space.

But Mitch Brundle’s troops swiftly responded. Winger Brandon Pierrick tested Bath keeper Max Harris, with Jordan Higgs’ effort being deflected wide not long after.

And in the 37th minute, Dover really should have broken the deadlock.

Jake Goodman latched onto a set-piece at the far post and was thwarted by a fingertip save from Harris. The loose ball fell to 19-year-old frontman Noah Carney, although his close-range strike was blocked on the line.

The hosts went close twice more in first-half stoppage time, as impressive right-back Myles Judd blasted wide and Ajayi curled inches wide of Cheltenham loanee Harris’ right-hand post.

Six minutes after the restart, a corner from Whites skipper Lee Martin was half-cleared. That allowed Goodman to turn inside the penalty area, only to send his shot narrowly over.

Dover were causing problems at this stage. Next, centre-half Tyrone Sterling nodded Martin’s corner towards goal in the 56th minute and Harris saved - albeit not convincingly.

Next to try their luck for Athletic soon after was Wanadio, who shot wide.

Heading into the last 15 minutes, Brundle made his first substitution as Luke Baptiste came on for Carney.

With 12 minutes to go, Cooke tried catching home keeper Stuart Nelson out with a strike from 40 yards out. But it proved far too easy for 41-year-old Nelson who gathered with ease.

Only a fantastic fingertip save by Harris denied Wanadio, moments later, with the midfielder having unleashed a 20-yard effort before George Wilkinson replaced Ajayi.

After 90 minutes without any cautions, Baptiste - playing as a lone striker in the latter stages - was booked by referee Robert Claussen at the start of stoppage time, much to the frustration of the home contingent.

That was the final action as the spoils were shared. The clean sheet means Dover have kept four successive clean sheets for the first time since the 2018/19 campaign.

It leaves Whites 14th, five points behind 12th-placed Bath.

There was a minute’s applause before kick-off in tribute to long-serving Dover fan Bob Hill, who recently died.

The hosts, who are back at home to relegation-threatened Cheshunt this Tuesday in a third straight home encounter, had made three changes from their starting line-up which beat Havant 1-0 four days earlier.

Higgs and Martin returned to the midfield while Carney was selected too. Freddie Oliver and George Nikaj missed out after sustaining midweek injuries. Baptiste, 19, dropped to the bench.

Midfielder Wilkinson, 18, was back involved, too, having been out with a knee injury.
