Southport 0 Dover Ath 2
DOVERm finally picked up their first away win of the season in the Conference - but they were grateful to goalkeeper Phil Smith for a superb display which frustrated the home side.
Matt Carruthers put Dover ahead against the run of play after 26 minutes when he glanced home a Darren Davies free kick, and then Smith kept Southport at bay almost single-handed before Athletic wrapped up a precious three points when Jimmy Strouts scored a breakaway goal after 70 minutes.
The win lifted Dover off the bottom of the table and manager Gary Bellamy said: "We deserved the win. All credit to the lads, they did their jobs. We've dominated recent games against Dagenham and Scarborough and lost."
