Dover Athletic 2 Chester 0 - Vanarama Conference match report

00:00, 13 October 2014

Dover secured a third consecutive home win after beating Chester 2-0 at Crabble in the Vanarama Conference.

Chris Kinnear’s side took the lead two minutes into the second half after Tom Murphy’s shot was deflected into his own net by Ben Heneghan.

Murphy, who was starting his first game of the season, also played a major role in Dover’s second goal in the 64th minute.

His cross was headed home by defender Connor Essam, his first goal for Whites.

It was Dover’s fifth win of the season and it ended Chester’s three-game unbeaten run.

The result moves Kinnear’s side up to 18th in the table, leapfrogging Kent rivals Dartford, who were held at home by Macclesfield, and moving two points clear of the drop zone.

Earlier, Kinnear was forced to make a couple of changes to his line-up due to injuries picked up in Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat at Nuneaton.

Left-back Tom Wynter replaced Tyrone Sterling while Chris Kinnear Jnr started in midfield for Matt Lock.

Murphy was also preferred to Stefan Payne in attack.
