A popular artisan café has been forced to close leaving its owner "heartbroken" and sparking hundreds of messages of sympathy and support.
Businesswoman Elenor Lambert had even taken a second job in a bid to keep The Yard off Preston Street, Faversham, afloat.
But despite this, she revealed on social media yesterday it was with "the heaviest of hearts" she had decided to shut.
Posting the news on Facebook, Ms Lambert said: "Game over.
"I fought for as long as I could - even taking a second job - but sadly climate and circumstance have made the proposition, which unwaveringly celebrated provenance and sustainability, untenable.
"I’m sure you all will know how heartbroken I am, for myself and for my incredible team - they truly are the most talented bunch in Faversham."
The Yard had first launched in the centre of town eight years ago, becoming a popular spot with foodies.
It specialised in healthy, local home-cooked produce and drink, offering burgers, hot sandwiches and snacks.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I inform you my beloved café will not be re-opening tomorrow," Ms Lambert added.
"I would like to thank you all for eight wonderful years of support and friendship.
"I’m sorry there is no farewell notice or hoorah, I just can’t.
"The bookings will be contacted over the course of the next few days."
However, Ms Lambert stresses her Sorella wholefood kitchen catering and veg box clients will be unaffected by the closure.
Since she made the announcement on Facebook, almost 500 customers have sent her messages of sadness.
One described The Yard as the best café in the town, while another said it was "always my go-to place for seeing friends for coffees".
"This is such a loss to our little town," resident Jo Jell wrote.
"You’ll be hugely missed."
Meanwhile, fellow local Sophie Day added: "We love The Yard.
"It genuinely felt like it was at the heart of the community that makes Faversham such a special place."
