The coastbound M2 motorway in Faversham has reopened following a multiple car crash in which a child was cut free by firefighters.

Kent Police’s road unit reported an accident between junction 6 and junction 7 of the motorway, approaching the Brenley corner roundabout with the A2 just before 3.30pm.

Fire crews cut the roof off one vehicle to allow paramedics to reach a child in one of the cars. The infant was taken to hospital by ambulance for further attention. It is not known if there were any other casualties.

Kent Police spokesman Keith Fairbank said traffic was diverted off the motorway at junction 6 to allow the ambulance service to treat any casualties.

The road reopened just after 7.30pm.

Drivers stuck in the queue between junctions 4 and 5 were stunned to see a burning coach pull up alongside them on the opposite side of the carriageway several.

It's not known if there were any passengers on board the London-bound vehicle, though one person reported seeing someone with a fire extinguisher put a small external blaze out by the rear axle.

A few hours later another incident on the M20 saw long queues of traffic building London-bound.
