Dog savages pregnant owner

00:00, 01 September 2005

A HEAVILY pregnant woman is recovering in hospital after she was savaged by her own Bullmastiff dog on Thursday morning.

The 22-year-old, who is eight months pregnant, was attacked by one of the family’s four dogs at her home in Bysingwood Road, Faversham.

Neighbours fought off the dogs after they heard her screams and a dog warden has taken two of the animals away. The woman suffered serious arm injuries.

Neighbour Michael Robertson said: "I heard screaming and barking so I realised something was wrong and went to help.

"A neighbour was hitting the dog with a spade then I went over and hit it with sticks. If no-one had gone over, she would have died."

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Bysingwood Road at 7.40am after a lady had been bitten by a dog.

"A warden took two of the dogs away and left the other two. The woman had serious injuries to her arm but they are not thought to be life threatening.

"As it is private land it was not the police’s responsibility."
