Dying mother’s wish to leave her family with happy memories
00:01, 02 January 2017
A dying mother-of-four is raising money to make precious final memories after being told she has just a year to live.
Doctors gave Clare Coleman, 37, the devastating news she has yet another brain tumour, despite receiving the all-clear from cancer three years ago.
If she has chemotherapy she could survive for another year but without treatment may have just months left with husband of 12 years Brian and their beloved children, Abigail, 17, Alisha, 13, Connor, nine, and Lily-Rae, five.
In a desperate bid to create cherished last moments with her family, Clare, who lives in Whitstable Road, Faversham, has set up a fundraising page.
She said: “I want my family to spend the last year of my life with me and remember the good memories we make, and not remember me as being unwell.
“I have made Christmas as magical as possible for me and my family as I will be starting radiotherapy and chemotherapy very soon, which means I will lose my hair once again and I will be feeling unwell.
“I could have a few months longer than a year if I respond to chemotherapy, but if I had no treatment at all, I could have just months to live.”
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2013, Clare went through months of treatment and losing her hair.
She went into remission but just two months later underwent extensive surgery after doctors found a brain tumour.
Clare said: “I was away from my family and friends while in King’s College Hospital, which was really hard.
“It took me a lot of time to recover and I had to have physiotherapy because I found it difficult to walk.”
Three years later, Clare has now found out she has another brain tumour and the cancer has spread to her liver and lungs.
Shortly after the diagnosis and just a few weeks before Christmas, an oncologist told Clare and her family that she may have just a year to live.
The Just Giving page has raised only £160 so far, but Clare hopes to make around £500.
She would love to take the children on day trips, possibly to Leeds Castle and Legoland, theme parks and zoos.
Her dream would be to go to Disneyland Paris.
