Extraordinary meeting to make Perry Court Farm call has been postponed

00:00, 19 November 2015

An extraordinary planning committee meeting called to make a final decision on the contentious Perry Court Farm development has been postponed.

After a chaotic hearing last month, a new meeting was planned for today (Thursday) for Swale Borough Council to call the shots on the application which includes 310 homes and a hotel.

But we can reveal it has been cancelled.

A spokesman for Swale Borough Council said: "The meeting has been postponed because a further representation has been received regarding air quality.

"This raises technical and legal issues which will require consideration by the applicants and further investigation before Swale Borough Council officers are able to advise Planning Committee.

"Unfortunately, it will not be possible for this to be concluded in time for the planned meeting."

Chaos ensued at last month’s hearing, when a senior officer was accused of violating the democratic process after he forced a debate on the development to be abandoned.

On October 15, Swale Borough Council head of planning James Freeman recommended that the massive development on the south of the A2 should be approved but realised planning committee members were poised to reject his proposal.

He intervened and called the evening to a halt, sparking an angry response from the public gallery.

The decision for the application – which includes 310 homes, a 100-room hotel, three gypsy pitches, a store, a restaurant and a playground on agricultural land – was left up in the air.

It had provoked 300 letters of objection and a 565-name petition.
