The dramatic moment fire crews saved a pensioner whose car was stuck in deep water under a bridge has been caught on camera.
Faversham resident Nicolas Blaza says he was walking his dog yesterday when he saw lots of emergency services activity in Aldred Road.
He got his camera out not knowing what had happened but turned the corner onto Forbes Road to see a car stranded in deep water, which had formed under the railway bridge following torrential downpours.
The video shows people gathering on the pavements near where the car is stuck, eagerly watching to see crews working to free it from the water, which was up to the vehicle’s number plate.
Three fire engines and a fire car were called to the scene, with several firefighters working together in the rescue.
Crews can be seen gathering around the vehicle before pushing it back onto non-flooded ground.
Inside the vehicle, an elderly woman can be seen, who Mr Blaza says was calm considering the circumstances.
“I had taken my dog out for a walk and saw all the fire engines, and thought something major had happened, but when I turned the corner I could see the Volkswagen stuck in the water,” he said.
“The poor lady didn’t seem to be stressed, otherwise I wouldn’t have filmed.
“The fire crew were also in high spirits, pushing the car up the hill and the lady was fine.”
It comes after the county was hit by days of wet and windy weather following Storm Ciaran.
Flood alerts have remained in place across Kent as a result of heavy showers.
The extreme weather has also seen many fireworks displays, including the popular spectacle at Quex Park, scrapped.
Many event organisers behind displays taking place across the county were forced to cancel due to the conditions being unsafe.
