A 78-year old-woman has told a judge of the "cat and mouse" game she was forced to play with a former unofficial Faversham town crier.

Groping Jack Wahlberg, 77, touched two women - using his position in singing and dancing groups to prey on his victims.

She told the judge that when she told her boyfriend of the incident he offered to "go to sort Jack out".

She said she feared after being pulled onto the bed that she was going to be raped.

In 2017 two women made complaints to police but it wasn't until today that Wahlberg was sentenced for sex assaults.

They would have to wait nearly five years for justice, and Wahlberg only admitted guilt after a judge promised he would not be going to jail.

The married former Royal Mail executive, of Ivory Close, Faversham, then entered his guilty pleas - and was given a suspended sentence.

Maidstone Crown Court heard how one of the victims revealed she was left frightened after Wahlberg began administering unwanted touches and she began avoiding him.

She said she was playing a game of "cat and mouse" so she wouldn't be in a position for Wahlberg to "accidentally" touch her.

His barrister, Anthony Abell told the judge: "He is embarrassed and ashamed and wishes to put this chapter behind him," but said it was astonishing the case had taken so long to get to court.

Judge Douglas Moore told him his behaviour had been "loutish" and "predatory".

Wahlberg hung his head as the judge said he was prepared to suspend the 15 month jail sentence for two years.

"If this happens again, make no mistake, you will not touch the sides and will go back to prison."

He also ordered him to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work - telling the Cancer Research volunteer: "If you can dance you can work."
