Two men have been charged with a gun plot after armed police chased a vehicle on the M2.
Several police cars, including armed officers from the Met Police's specialist team tackling gang violence, pursued two vehicles along the motorway between Faversham and Sittingbourne on Sunday, sparking long delays.
Spencer Tapper, 36, from Dagenham, and Mahesh Chaitoo, 37, from Southend, have both been charged with conspiracy to possess a firearm with ammunition with intent to endanger life.
At around 6.30pm on Sunday, drivers reported seeing up to eight police vehicles cornering another car and one witness said they had seen a man being placed into the back of a cop car.
Another witness said they saw dozens of police vehicles parked up in a lay-by on the Ashford Road in Faversham before the alleged incident.
Tapper and Chaitoo were arrested on the M2 near to junction five for Sittingbourne.
They both appeared in custody at Medway Magistrates' Court today.
Two women arrested at the same time have been bailed pending further enquiries until mid-April.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Trident and Area Crime Command, who specialise in gang violence, are investigating.
