POLICE say the body of a man has been found in a derelict workshop in a Kent town.

The discovery was made by a member of the public at the premises in Abbey Fields, Faversham, shortly after 2pm on Wednesday.

The body is thought to be that of 39-year-old Michael Mackrill, of Willow Avenue, Faversham, who has been missing for more than a month.

Mr Mackrill was last seen riding a mountain bike in Faversham, on Friday, January 19.

Police officers say they are not treating the death as suspicious at this stage. The derelict workshop is on land belonging to Abbey Park Holdings.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "It was quite a shock. The police cordoned off the street and wouldn’t let us get to our house. Kids sometimes break into the building but nothing like this has happened before."

On Tuesday this week police officers carried out an extensive search for Mr Mackrill in the Faversham area which included local woods.
