A punter's dream of winning thousands of pounds from a bet with a spare £1 has come true.
Alan Jenner saw distant hope became a reality as he pocketed an astonishing £34,787 from a £1 each-way bet.
The Faversham-based amateur photographer, who is no stranger to the world of betting, will now be jetting off to Thailand thanks to his once-in-a-lifetime winnings.
After studying the horse racing odds and tips in the newspapers, Alan tried his luck and placed a tiny wager on seven-fold accumulator.
The 56-year-old said: “I am a house proud person and while I was doing my chores I was following the racing.
"When I realised my first four selections had won I started paying much more attention and was glued to the telly for last three races.
"I was sweating by now and when the last horse, Present Man, won at Wincanton I leapt out of the chair and punched the air.
"I had a few cans of lager to celebrate that’s for sure."
Alan will now see out the new year in Thailand - where he will stay for three weeks.
"I can hardly believe it," he said.
"I don’t take any notice of horses’ names and don’t follow any particular trainer. What I do is read up in the newspapers for an hour and a half or so checking the expert opinion then make my mind up.
"I can’t wait for the holiday."
Betfred boss Fred Done said: "I’m chuffed to bits for one our regular customers who has emptied my pockets with a tiny wager. Not only has he cleaned his house he’s cleaned me out."
