Cristian Obade of Hernhill charged after laser shone at police helicopter

A man has been charged after a laser was shone at a police helicopter.

The chopper was assisting officers who were responding to a report of a burglary at about 7.50pm on Sunday in Monkshill Road, Faversham, where three men were said to have broken into a property.

While patrols were searching for the suspects, a laser pen was repeatedly directed at the helicopter from the direction of Wey Street in Hernhill.

Officers on foot searched the area and arrested a man nearby.

Cristian Obade, 22, of Wey Street, Hernhill, has been charged with one count of shining a laser beam towards an aircraft.

He has been bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 1.

Following the burglary one man aged in his 30s was arrested near Herne Bay, on suspicion of burglary other than dwelling.

He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
