A lorry driver has appeared in court accused of causing serious injury to two women by dangerous driving after a head-on crash at the weekend.

Milos Andrijasevic was arrested at the scene of the collision on the A251 Ashford Road near Faversham during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Emergency crews had been called to the road at about 3.30am after a lorry and a Honda Civic collided front-on.

Two women travelling in the car - Tara and Casey Holl - were seriously injured and rushed to a London hospital.

Andrijasevic, who is from Zagreb in Croatia, was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The 61-year-old was later charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and appeared before magistrates in Medway on Monday.

The road was initially closed in both directions between Badlesmere and Sheldwich while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Prosecutor Julie Farbrace told the court: “The crash was head-on with a Honda Civic.

“The front passenger in the car suffered abdominal injuries and the back passenger suffered a serious traumatic injury to her leg.

“This case should be sent to the crown court to be dealt with as guidelines suggest [the defendant] could be jailed for four years.”

The bench heard Andrijasevic, who spoke through a Serbian interpreter, is in the country on a visitors’ visa.

He has a stable address in Zagreb but is in England working as a HGV driver to provide money for his family.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on April 22.
