A man has been flown to a London hospital by air ambulance, while another has been taken to a local hospital.

Police, ambulance and fire crews remain at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 11.45am.

The road was closed in both directions, to allow the air ambulance to land.

The coast-bound carriageway has since reopened, but the London-bound carriageway remains partially closed.

Traffic is queueing London-bound between Junction 6 for the A251 Ashford Road at Faversham, and Junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Stockbury roundabout.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 11.45am on Wednesday 27 October 2021 to collision involving two lorries, a van and three cars on the Londonbound carriageway of the M2 between junctions 6 and 5, near Faversham.

"Officers attended the scene with South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue, and a man was conveyed to a London hospital with a serious leg injury. A second person went to a local hospital for medical attention.

"A full road closure was enforced to ensure public safety and to allow Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex to land.

"The coastbound carriageway has now been reopened and the Londonbound carriageway is partly reopened with two lanes closed while vehicles are being recovered."
