A WOMAN was concerned by a telephone call in which her brother said he was "going away", but wouldn’t say where.

She contacted Kent police who hours later they found him hanged at his home in Faversham.

A suicide verdict was recorded by Coroner Rachel Redman at the inquest in Dover.

She was told that Mark Casson, 43, of St John’s Road, had attempted to take his own life the previous year.

He had been through a divorce, redundancy, bereavement and moving house, all painful experiences, said Mrs Redman.

Sarah Myers, from Telford, Shropshire, thought her brother had seemed to be better in himself, was starting to pick himself up, feeling more positive about finding a job, and turning his life around.

But on August 8 he phoned to say he was going away somewhere. “I asked where he was going and he said it didn’t matter.”

Not knowing exactly where he was living, she contacted friends for information, and later that night police went to his home. But he was already dead.

Andrew Saitch, of Stone Street, Faversham, a friend of Mr Casson's for about three years, said Mr Casson had been applying for lots of jobs and was very positive.

On August 9 he found a text message on his phone sent by Mr Casson the previous evening saying: "Sorry for the mess. Thanks for being good friends. Mark would send strange text messages now and then,” he said.
