A witness said it was bizarre to see so many vehicles off the road, near the Gate Services, that had appeared to have crashed.

They also reported seeing a slushy substance on the road, similar to sleet.

The footage was captured just after 8pm.

It was later reported that the A2 was blocked in both directions at the same spot, which is not far from Junction 7 of the M2 at Brenley Corner.

The accident had cleared by 9.50pm.

Meanwhile, there were problems on the M20 in the Ashford area at about 8.30pm.

Traffic was brought to a standstill London-bound, just before Junction 9, after a vehicle overturned.

The emergency services have been contacted for more details.
