A mouthy parrot is on the loose in Faversham.

The hunt is on for Rocky who flew out of his home in Newton Road on Tuesday evening and is still yet to come back to its owners who are desperate for his return.

The African grey is completely grey apart from white around its eyes and a bright red tail and is about a foot long.

Owner Shelley Halls is distraught about the disappearance and is offering a £50 reward to anyone who brings Rocky back home.

She last saw him circling further and further away in the sky as she stood helpless in her garden.

Rocky had managed to get out into the garden and started making high-pitched sounds which indicates its fear.

After searching high and low for the giant bird, Shelley has now resorted to putting up posters around the town in a bid to find Rocky.

She was called out to Preston Lane on Wednesday morning where Rocky was seen perched on a tree, but the RSPCA refused to help because they assumed he would fly off before they arrived and the bird had flown off before Shelley could find a way to get him down.

She said: “It was horrible watching him fly off and we are the only faces he knows so I don’t want him to be scared.

“We have put a number of posters up around the town so we hope that will lead to his return.

“He is micro-chipped so we hope that that may help to get him back. It is the first time he’s ever left us in the six or seven years we have had him.”

Rocky has a large vocabulary and will copy most of what people say especially phrases he gets used to.

Shelley added: “He will often say ‘hello Rocky’ and repeat the words from television adverts, like the ASDA one. He picks up on most things.

“We are just really worried about him and really want to get him home.”

If anyone spots Rocky around the town they should call Shelley on 01795 537829.
