The M2 has fully reopened in both directions after a "police incident".
The coastbound stretch of the motorway was closed between junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Junction 6 for Faversham, but it has now reopened.
A lane closure is in place and drivers are being warned to approach with care.
Highways officials say congestion is backed up to junction 4 (Gillingham).
London-bound traffic is already backed up past junction 7 (Brenley Corner), causing delays on all approaches towards the Brenley Roundabout, mainly affecting the A229 and the A2 Boughton bypass.
Police have been contacted for a comment.
