Police stepped up patrols today following speculation a huge fight had been arranged between rival schools.
More officers were in Faversham this afternoon amid reports of a planned confrontation betweens pupils.
Social media was rife with concerned parents questioning talk that a fight would break out between school children at the town's recreation ground this evening.
The Abbey School wrote to parents, reassuring them that its pupils were not involved in the alleged plans.
"The school has been aware of rumours circulating via social media that some young people from other schools have been trying to organise a public disturbance or fight in the local community," a spokesman for the London Road school said earlier this afternoon.
"Several students and parents have felt the need to contact us about this and we have shared all of these concerns with the police.
"The police have reported that there will be an increased presence on their part in town and that they will be present at the school at the end of the school day.
"As ever, student safety and safeguarding remains our priority and staff will continue to monitor and be vigilant."
Police confirmed they were aware of concerns regarding the potential disturbance.
Spokesman Jo Pattison added: "Officers from the community safety unit are working with partner agencies to establish the veracity of the circumstances and will respond accordingly."
