Plans for the biggest solar farm in the country have now been accepted by the government’s planning inspectorate for consideration.
The scheme would see almost 900 acres of countryside near Graveney covered in solar panels and the erection of a huge battery storage facility.
The planning inspectorate will be determining the application through a public inquiry, and is inviting representations from the public and interested organisations.
A lengthy public consultation has already been carried out by the applicant, Cleve Hill Solar Park Ltd.
After considering the responses, it reduced the number of solar panels on the site.
The company says the solar park will generate enough green electricity to power 91,000 homes.
But the development is surrounded by protected wildlife habitats which objectors say will be threatened by it.
A full copy of the application is available for viewing at Faversham, Swale and Teynham libraries.
Go to the planning inspectorate’s website to comment or register to speak at the inquiry.
A date for the hearing has yet to be announced.
