Fire crews at scene of building fire in West Street, Faversham

Emergency crews tackled a huge building fire in Faversham town centre this morning.

Residents were warned to keep their windows and doors closed after the blaze broke out in the roof of the two-storey Beauty Spot salon in West Street.

Firefighters and police were called to the scene just after 5am.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "On arrival crews were faced with a two-storey property well alight.

"Firefighters are using hose reel jets, Fog Spikes and breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

"Due to the location of the fire and the smoke issuing, residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed for the time being."

A police spokesman added: "Officers are currently in West Street, Faversham, to help firefighters because of a fire at a commercial premises."

The roof and first floor of the building have been badly damaged, while the ground floor is affected by smoke and water.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
