Rugger club cancels fun day

FAVERSHAM Rugby Club has been forced to cancel this year's gala day because it has become too costly to organise.
Thousands attended last year's popular open-air concert, but the club realised too many were bringing in their own drinks and picnics.
The only revenue the club can make is through bar takings and from stalls but these have fallen as band hire, PA equipment hire and insurance rates have rocketed.
Spokesman Alex Delamain said: "Faced with spiralling costs and decreasing revenue the members of Faversham Rugby Club can no longer bear the financial risk for the event and, as a result, have taken the regrettable step of cancelling this year's gala day."
The event, which also included a fairground, has been held for the past six years on the Bank Holiday for the town and club members to enjoy themselves.
There are hopes the event can be put on next year provided the club can find sponsors.
