Fire in barn in Provender Lane, Norton

Eight fire crews battled a massive barn blaze near Faversham.

Residents were warned to keep windows and doors closed as firefighters tackled the fire in Provender Lane, Norton. Plastic pallets inside produced noxious smoke. which could be seen for miles.

Eight fire engines, a height vehicle and a bulk water carrier were called to the scene and crews doused the flames using water from hydrants, compressed air foam, fogspikes and ground monitors.

Witnesses described seeing plumes of black smoke.

Provender Lane was closed and people were asked to avoid the area.

Crews were called at around 3pm and left the scene at around 10.30pm.
