Project leaders behind a 330-home development in Faversham have won a national prize.
The £40 million scheme at the former Oare Gravel Works has been named the Best Large Development at the First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards.
The 131-acre project, built by Chelmsford-based firm Anderson, is partway through its construction.
Permission for the second phase of work at the old gunpowder and aggregates site was granted last month, meaning the next batch of 106 houses will be built.
It won praise from judges for expanding on the concept of boundless living, with all of its houses having open-plan design as well as the idea of ‘bringing the outside in’.
Development manager for the Faversham Lakes scheme, Alan Clarke, said: “Winning this award is a huge triumph for the whole team.
"This is a fabulous project to work on and offers excellent transport links, education provision and community assets which all tie into the ethos of ‘room to grow, room to play and room to live’.”
Once complete, a nature park boasting new footpaths, bird hides and wildlife havens will be formed.
A visitor centre ‘heritage hub’ for the country park is set be created by bringing derelict work buildings back into life.
A new headquarters for the 8th Faversham Sea Scout troop, which has been based at the site for more than 40 years, will also be delivered as part of the multi-million pound project.
