A mum was left terrified after a stranger saying “mine” attempted to snatch a pushchair carrying her young children from her in Faversham town centre.

Mum-of-two Natasha Bye was walking along Preston Street with her toddler son and baby daughter yesterday when two people approached her acting suspiciously.

The 28-year-old heard one of the men utter “mine” while gesturing towards her six-month-old girl, Billie-Jo, as he reached for the pram.

She told the pair to “**** off”, before yanking the buggy away from his outstretched hand and running away.

Ms Bye, whose two-year-old son Junior was also in the pushchair, told KentOnline: “I was on my way to Superdrug and then the next thing I know these two men are walking up to me saying ‘mine’ and trying to grab my pram.

“One of them was the lookout while the other man tried to take my babies.

“They could see that there were children in the pram because mine has a bassinet at the back and a toddler at the front.

“After that I hid and waited for my baby’s dad to arrange for someone to come get me because I felt frozen to the spot.

“I was terrified, I was crying and I felt physically sick.”

Ms Bye, who is from the town, was able to evade the men by entering an off-licence that she knew had a back entrance to leave through, before hiding out in Card Factory.

She says the ordeal - which took place at about 12.30pm - has left her feeling reluctant to leave the house alone.

“What would they have done with my children and how could they put a mother through that?” Ms Bye continued.

“It was the first time I’d been out on my own for months and now I don’t want to go out, not even to get a pint of milk.”

She describes the men as mixed race and says they were wearing tracksuits.

A police spokesman has confirmed the force received a report “of a man acting suspiciously outside a shop in Preston Street” an hour after the incident occurred.

“Officers attended the scene to search the area and conduct initial inquiries,” he said.

“We later visited the person who made the report to offer support and safeguarding advice.”
