Fire crews evacuated 12 residents near a derelict building after it was believed to have been deliberately torched.
The property, on Canterbury Road in Faversham, was filled with wooden furniture before it was completely razed to the ground by flames.
Four fire engines arrived on the scene at 3.35am this morning, with crews using foam to quell the fire.
Foam was also sprayed on neighbouring properties as a precaution.
Despite this preventative effort, a second fire began in a nearby house after what's suspected to have been an ember entered an open bedroom window.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus put the second fire out with a hose reel jet.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Following this secondary fire, firefighters are highlighting the importance of closing windows and doors.
"If there’s a fire in your home and it’s safe to do so, contain it by closing doors as you leave the property to reduce fire spread.
"If there is a fire near your home remember to close windows and doors to prevent smoke or embers entering.
"Such a simple step can make a huge difference to the outcome."
The situation was brought under control just over an hour later at 4.56am.
