The M2 at Faversham has now re-opened for the second time today following two separate pile-ups.
Police say a number of people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash that closed the M2 at Faversham at about 5pm, involving at least five cars.
That accident came just two hours after the motorway re-opened following an earlier pile-up in almost the same place.
There were not believed to be any serious injuries in the second crash, but the road was closed for almost three hours as the wrecked vehicles were cleared.
Several people were treated at the scene.
Speaking just after the second accident, a police spokesman said: "Officers are currently at the scene of a collision involving a number of vehicles on the M2 coastbound, near Junction 6.
"A number of people are reported to have suffered injuries and are being treated at the scene by ambulance staff.
"The road has been closed at Junction 6 and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
