Faversham Golf Club’s Barry Sears has won a national award.
Sears, the club’s junior organiser, was named volunteer of the year at the England Golf Awards.
Having taken on the role for the second time in 2016, Sears has rejuvenated the junior section which now has more than 80 boys and girls.
With endless enthusiasm, and despite personal injury and shielding, he continues to give up a huge amount of time to help youngsters.
He said: “I am gobsmacked. To receive a nomination is amazing but to win the category is just unbelievable.
“I’m so delighted, not just for myself but for the club and Kent juniors too.
“I truly hope that my success encourages others to get involved in their own junior section as it really is so rewarding.”
Sears was nominated by Faversham general manager Paul Smith, who said: “We are very fortunate to have such a fantastic junior organiser in Barry, with his drive and passion for junior golf both here and out across Kent too, and he fully deserves the award.”
