Clive Walker believes the two-week break for Faversham Town will do the side good following the departure of manager Ray Turner.

In their first game without Turner in the dugout they were beaten at home 4-2 to Haywards Heath Town.

They have now gone six games without a win in all competitions and have slipped down to 15th in the Bostik South East.

Their next game is not until Saturday, November 3, when they face Guernsey at home.

Coach Walker said: “Perhaps we need that break. Sometimes it comes at a good time and sometimes it does not.

“With the way we are playing it will hopefully do us some good and will allow us to get a couple of people back from injury

“It could have been a little bit of a hangover after Ray left last week. As semi-professional players they want to play well and perform though.

“It’s about picking the team to win the match. The game is all about confidence and they are not a bad team at all.

“We have not had that confidence for a few weeks now.

“You need to find a way to pick up a couple of ugly wins where you do not play well and that will come right back.”

Turner left the club two weeks ago and the process has started to appoint a new manager. Applications close at midnight on Monday, November 5.

Walker will take first team training and matches until a new manager has been appointed.

He said: “It’s my 58th season and I am 73 this week. We need someone younger at the club who is going to come in and make their mark.

“I was going to retire at the season anyway. I would not let the club down and will stay for as long as they need me to manage the team.

“My aim is to just try and win the next match against Guernsey. We should be looking to take three points from that one.”

Faversham lost to Haywards Heath despite taking the lead in the match and seeing matches out is what they need to be working on, according to Walker.

He said: “We are in a funny situation. It has happened a few times this year when we’ve gone ahead and we have not been able to see it through.

“It happened again on Saturday after scoring early in the game. In the first half we looked like a really top class team and after that we were poor.

“We are making a lot of individual errors and we are getting punished for it at the moment.”
