Returning Faversham striker Dean Grant thinks competition for places at the club should spur the squad on.

Town manager James Collins has used a period of more than a fortnight without a competitive fixture to significantly bolstered his squad.

Grant, coming back for a fourth spell at Salters Lane, is among a plethora of recent Faversham signings.

Collins, however, has warned the new arrivals nobody is guaranteed a starting spot - not that Grant minds the battle for places.

“That will never put me off personally,” he admitted.

“I think it should spur any new player or any player already at the club on to the next level.

“It’s quite easy to get comfortable.

“From the manager’s point-of-view, he has been honest and said your position is not guaranteed.

“But if a certain player is doing it in training and then gets a start, that’s testament to that player for the work they have put in on the training ground.

“Competition for places is good and, hopefully, it will help the team climb up the table.”

Grant will hope to make his latest debut when Faversham host Isthmian North Tilbury in their FA Trophy second qualifying round tie this Saturday.

He may have been involved for the Lilywhites in last weekend’s Isthmian South East fixture at Burgess Hill but that was called off due to the weather conditions, hours before kick-off.

Grant, who has already played more than 100 times for the club, said: “I’m looking forward to getting that shirt back on and playing in front of the home fans.

“I have quite a past with Faversham, but the goals I have scored will be put to one side.

“This is a whole new team and a whole new style of play.

“I know they have big plans at Faversham.

“With my past, if I can come back and be part of the club going forward for the next few years, that will be the icing on the cake for me.”

Town’s under-23s are also looking for a new manager.
