Faversham Town joint-manager Phil Miles is hoping his side’s break hasn’t come at the wrong time.

The Lilywhites ended a run of four games without a win last time out as they beat Whitehawk 2-1 in the league.

With Tuesday’s Velocity Trophy game against Whitstable having been re-scheduled, it will mark two weeks since Faversham last played when they face Cray Valley on Saturday in Isthmian South East.

Miles said: “We’d rather be playing to be honest, us being knocked out of the cup is starting to have an effect on the number of games we play.

“Phoenix have got a cup game in a couple of weeks so that’s potentially another game we won’t be playing.

“We had about six first-team players playing for the under-23s on Tuesday night, they’re all under 23 anyway.

“We want to keep playing games, especially after that good result against Whitehawk.

“We had our goalkeeper away so young Harry Earls came in and did ever so well, we also had three under-23s on the bench and were missing Mitch Chapman due to suspension so it was a great result.

“What you want to do is follow on from that with another game.

“It didn’t help us last time when we had a week off but it does give injured boys chance to have a rest and get back.”

Miles insists Faversham won’t alter their style as they prepare to visit a Cray side that have conceded just five goals in the league so far this season.

He added: “We’ll just go out and approach it like we normally do for every game.

“They’re a good side and were unlucky to concede late on against Sevenoaks in the Velocity Trophy the other day.”

While sitting 10th in the table, Faversham aren’t resting on their laurels as they continue their search for another forward.

“I’d be lying if I said we aren’t happy with 10th,” said Miles.

“But I think three wins and you’re in the top six and then three defeats and you’re down at the bottom so we’re not getting too carried away.”

He added: “Our home form is good, we’d like to pick up a few more points away from home.

“Hopefully we can bring a couple of new faces in, we’ve always got to keep improving.

“We’re still trying to get a striker in, whether that’s on loan or permanently. We did go for a couple but they didn’t come.”

Jack Sellens is a doubt for Saturday due to an ankle injury, while Makhosini Ryan Khanye is set to be available again.
