FAVERSHAM Town have been suspended by the Kent County FA over concerns about the way the club is being run. Town are already suspended by the Bass Brewers Kent League for not having a valid floodlight certificate.
Now the county FA have stepped in because they are not convinced the club is being run constitutionally. Town officials were asked by the county to produce their minute books and accounts for the past two years but have so far failed to do so.
The county are particularly keen to receive written confirmation that the management committee were happy to transfer the running of the club to the limited company headed by chairman John Glover and managing director Tony Hillier-Carter.
Earlier this year a row broke out when team manager Simon Kay was dismissed by the limited company despite the management committee saying they had no power to do so. County FA chief executive Keith Masters, who revealed that the limited company is not affiliated to the County FA, said: "All we need is to see factual evidence that everything is in order and above board because there are so many different things being said and done.
"Faversham FC is a members club but there have been changes in the way the club is being run which appear to be outside of the management committeeÕs constitution. What we need to see is documentary evidence that the management committee discharged the running of the cub to the limited company.
"We can't understand why there has been all this prevarication although the chairman John Glover has spoken to a member of my staff and said that the treasurer has the books and will not release them. That in itself arouses suspicion. We don't want to see any club go but we do want to see clubs run properly. Sadly until this matter is resolved Faversham will not be allowed to play."
Town treasurer Andy Maxted denied that he was deliberately hanging on to the information, adding that he had not heard from Mr Glover for several weeks. "He's got my address and I've told him he's welcome to collect the books whenever he wants. They're of no use to me," he added.
Faversham have been suspended by the Kent League since early October and have still to obtain a new floodlight certificate. However, league secretary Roy Vinter denied there were any plans to call an egm of clubs to discuss Town's future.
"I don't know where that suggestion came from. We won't even be discussing Faversham again until the next management committee meeting, which is on the last Friday of the month," he added.
